Our Story

Providence is the almighty and ever present power of God by which he upholds, as with his hand, heaven and earth and all creatures, and so rules them that leaf and blade, rain and drought, fruitful and lean years, food and drink, health and sickness, prosperity and poverty—all things, in fact, come to us not by chance but from his fatherly hand.  Heidelberg Catechism 27

Providence Presbyterian is so named because we believe we’re being upheld by the powerful and fatherly hand of God and that our church is being planted in this time and this place for God’s glory and that many might be drawn nearer to Jesus Christ.

The story of this church begins with the prayers and faithfulness of God’s people at Grace Covenant Presbyterian in Blacksburg, VA, who were willing to be both “goers” and “senders” in response to what we believe to be God’s call to plant a church in Christiansburg that will be faithful to the Scriptures, true to the Reformed faith, and obedient to the Great Commission of Jesus Christ.

We also attribute to Providence the call of Rev. Brian Waters, who grew up in Christiansburg and graduated from Christiansburg High School, to plant and pastor this new church. We’ve been encouraged as a number of families in the area and churches from our region have committed to serving and supporting this work of God’s Kingdom.

We began meeting for worship on Sunday, August 12, 2012, at Pathway Christian Academy. Our worship begins at 10:30 am.

Providence is a church plant of Grace Covenant PCA, with the cooperation of the Blue Ridge Presbytery, and a member of the Presbyterian Church in America.
