Sermon On the Mount – Turning the Other Cheek
by Brian Waters
We are a group of people who have come to love the Gospel of Jesus Christ and want everything we do to reflect this Gospel. By God’s grace we aim to warmly and honestly call the people of Christiansburg and beyond to acknowledge their brokenness (sin, weakness, pride) and to rest in the person and work of Jesus Christ.
Distinctives we hope to be known for:
Christ-centered Preaching. We are committed to preaching Christ and Him crucified, as the primary means by which God draws sinners to Himself and builds His Church. Our preaching will be expository, through books of the Bible, opening the whole counsel of God with an eagerness to make much of the person and work of Jesus Christ.
God-centered Worship. Our worship will focus on the triune God as He calls us to Himself, reshapes our lives by the power of the Gospel, and gives us grace to live for Him. In response to God’s mercy and grace, we worship as individuals, families, and as a church. Our gathered worship will aim to be in spirit and truth, according to Scripture, understandable today while connected to the past, and blended in music.
Grace-formed Community. Out of the overflow of God’s love toward us in Jesus, we bear with one another in love and eagerly pursue the peace and unity of the Holy Spirit. In humility, we’ll love one another and all those the Lord brings into our midst; extending grace and mercy, rejoicing in hope, and offering hospitality.
Gospel-driven Ministry & Mission. Simply put, we are committed to believing Jesus’ promise to be with us as we obey His command to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” While resting in the promises of the Gospel, we want to actively make disciples in Christiansburg and beyond through our ministries, relationships, labors, prayers, and resources.
